Fear and loathing of an artificially intelligent World!

What are our fears when considering the rise of AI? Are our fears realisable? What do possible futures look like and what should we be keeping an eye on, to protect ourselves from irresponsible use?

Jika Jika Community Centre, 1B Plant St, Northcote VIC 3070, Australia

About the event

"An intelligent society, characterized by the wide application of the internet, big data and artificial intelligence (AI), will .. liberate not only people's physical strength, but also their mental power, greatly changing social forms and social operation modes, as well as people themselves.", Hongxia Hou ("On the three constraints of the development of artifical intelligence: Value, liberation and responsibility")

The speed of AI development is so fast it's hard to keep up. It's argued that humankind will be 'freed from slavery' by AI where we will no longer be 'limited by nature'.  Others see this disconnect from nature as something likely to begin the demise of humankind and the slip down in to a dystopian future.

In this months discussion we'll explore possible futures and how we might advocate for positive social change. What are the potential systemic impacts? We'll also discuss the moral, ethical and sociological theories around the rise of AI.

Come join for a deep think!

Loops of Learning holds regular events to inspire change through a dialogue of sense-making.

Conversations help us understand. They give us the chance to test our thinking, understand the systems we live in and empathise with other people. They also create safe spaces to be challenged and challenge the ideas of others. This can help us prepare for conversations where thinking really needs to shift.

These events are monthly and will be held on Sunday’s throughout 2022.

Afternoon tea is provided and you'll be contacted for coffee orders / drink preferences and dietary requirements closer to the event.
